Alaskan Issues

Statewide Issues that matter to me

  • ·       Ban within 3 miles, protect shrimpers

    ·       Poaching Penalties

    ·       Tax waste of processing plants

As a main issue of my previous US House Campaign, the fisheries in Alaska are sacred. Protecting the subsistence, commercial and sport fisheries are once again at the front of this campaign. Alaskans have spoken deeply about the elimination of the destructive practice of factory bottom trawling, and an outright ban of the practice within State waters is warranted. I will strongly advocate to the federal delegation for their removal within Federal waters. Being a state that prides itself in self sufficiency, the outdoors, and deep native culture, we must protect the resources that attract us to the Last Frontier.

  • 1.      Lower tuition to minimal levels of the University system, to open opportunities for influx of out of state students, and keep Alaskan students.

    2. Promote law school, PA Schools, Medical Schools to attract top talent

I am a strong advocate for public education. As a free and self governing people, it is important to have a strong public education program for the future generations of Alaskans. I support the establishment of a Law Program, and further expansion of the medical programs at UA systems.

  • The cost of heat, and the looming natural gas shortage, should make this project a priority to accomplish. The design of the pipeline is the least environmentally intrusive major project proposed at this time, and natural gas is one of the cleanest forms of energy.

The benefits do not equate to eliminating all potential tax revenues for the state, so the corporate owners may profit from an Alaskan resource. If such tax deductions should take place, it must be felt on our utility bills. As one of the greatest monthly expenses to residents and businesses alike, reduced heating costs can have a direct impact on our quality of life. Should tax reductions be made to create the pipeline, we must by law, be given substantial, if not completely free, natural gas to heat and power our homes and businesses.

    • Close the S Corp Loop Hole

    • Non-Resident / Transient Worker Payroll Tax

    • No Corporate Subsidies

    • No State Sales Tax

    • No Resident Income Tax

‍ ‍ The Cost of Living is the greatest challenge to the residents and future of this State. A state sales tax would prevent Boroughs from inacting their own revenue streams for their local governments, and I am firmly against a state sales tax. Additionally, a state sales tax causes an immediate increase in our cost of living. Likewise, a state income tax is an immediate reduction in our disposable income, further burdening suppressed wages.

Implementing a non-resident payroll tax encourages Alaskan employment, while capturing revenue that escapes our state with non-resident employment.

  •   No data centers should be near populated areas, supporting their construction only if they can generate their own power, away from fertile water supplies and the corporations subsequently invest in internet infrastructure in Alaska

I do not believe AI has contributed significantly to our way of life. I believe that these data centers have hurt the environment, and the people that live around them. We do not have the ability to support these data centers with our power grid, and if they were to exist in Alaska, they must be self sufficient. They cannot damage the environment, nor rely on community power or water supply. Should these data centers become self sufficient, I would support their existence with their investment of bettering Alaska’s internet infrastructure.
